Bode Miller in position for a bronze in the downhill, so far

Well, he led for a while, but if Bode Miller of the U.S. wins a medal in the men’s downhill, it will be a bronze.

The eighth skier down the course, Miller put up a time of 1:54.40. Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway came down 16th and put up a time of 1:54.38, then Didier Defago of Switzerland came down the mountain 18th and put up a time of 1:54.31, dropping Miller to third.

Miller is trying to become the first American to win three Alpine medals. He won two at the Salt Lake City Games in 2002.

Andrew Weibrecht and Steven Nyman of the U.S. finished well behind Miller. Marco Sullivan of the U.S. hasn’t come down the mountain yet.
