Water polo: Indomitable spirit

A great feel-good story comes from Brea Olinda, where Kyle Allred scored a couple of goals against Schurr, writes Dan Albano of the Register.

Two goals is pocket change for a lot of players, but it’s gold in this case. Allred, now a senior, suffered a stroke when he was a sophomore, and had a kidney transplant as well. Now, he is playing again. If it’s the only thing you check out today, I recommend this story.

Also, you can read about the mega-match between the Southern Section’s top-ranked teams in Division I, No. 1 El Toro and No. 2 Newport Harbor, and Albano’s account of the Sailors’ 8-5 overtime ‘upset.’

Those rankings have since been reversed -- obviously.
