As well as Servite (7-1, 3-0) played in its 31-13 victory over host St. John Bosco (3-5, 0-2) in a Trinity League game Friday night, the most enthusiastic cheers and applause by the Friars’ fans occurred when a progress report on the Orange Lutheran-Mater Dei game was heard over the stadium’s loudspeakers.
When Orange Lutheran was announced as leading the Monarchs, 31-6, with about 2 1/2 minutes left, it was safe to say the Friars and their fans were going to go home happy.
Mater Dei, ranked No. 1 by The Times and in the state by CalHiSports.com, had been in a first-place tie in the league with the Friars, who, ironically, had been leading St. John Bosco by the same margin at the same time. Servite plays host to the Monarchs (7-1, 2-1) next Friday night at Angel Stadium.
