Its 73-60 victory at Los Angeles Friday brought Santee (11-4, 7-0) another step closer to the Southern League title in boys’ basketball. The Falcons led second-place Bravo by a half-game going into Friday’s action. And Bravo was expected to keep pace by beating struggling Contreras.
The win also gave Falcons Coach Curtis Hughes some thoughts about his team beyond league play.
‘If we can run the table, I think we should get one of the top three Invitational seeds,’ Hughes said. ‘I’m hoping the [nonleague] games we played against teams like Banning, Hamilton and University will have us ready for the playoffs.
‘If we win out we should get two home games. But we have to finish well. I expect Bravo to give us a tough game, and also West Adams Prep. Even though West Adams doesn’t have a good record, they play us extremely hard.’
