I keep waiting for there to be a defining game in the Foothill League boys’ basketball title race, but we’re going to have to wait at least one more week before we see a game that’ll actually decide something.
Tonight’s battle across the street from the skating rink between Valencia and Saugus features the two teams locked at the top of the Foothill League. It should be an exciting contest, but you’d be a fool to peg the winner of this showdown as a sure bet for the league title when you consider what West Ranch and Hart have accomplished.
Still, it’s my duty to get everyone in the blogosphere riled up, so I’m going to go the safe route and pick the Centurions in this one. Thanks to Cameron Diorio and Mario Wright, the Centurions cruised to a 70-63 victory over the Vikings on Jan. 8 and I think it’ll be another close Saugus win. Plus, Valencia barely beat the same Canyon team Saugus spanked last week.
But don’t read too deeply into who triumphs in this one. There’s four games left to go in what is still a four-way race for the league title (sorry, Canyon and Golden Valley).
