Santa Margarita upset Riverside Poly, ranked No. 5 in the state by Calhisports, 5-2, on Thursday at the Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Ariz.
Santa Margarita’s Kellen McNamara hit a two-run homer to give the Eagles a 2-1 advantage, but Poly tied the game in the sixth inning.
In an international tiebreaker in the eighth, Santa Margarita dominated, scoring three runs.
‘We’ve been getting off to a slow start offensively and not getting timely hitting, but yesterday we got some timely hitting,’ said Santa Margarita Coach John Fitzpatrick.
