Los Angeles Loyola and Bellflower St. John Bosco are both 2-0 and headed on a collision course for what could be a top nonleague game in two weeks at L.A. Valley College.
Loyola first must beat Newport Harbor this coming week while St. John Bosco has Santa Fe. But all signs point toward a pending battle.
St. John Bosco knocked off Lakewood, 35-31. DaVonte Young rushed for 106 yards and Dalis Bruce caught nine passes for 121 yards.
Loyola has won its first two games for the first time since 2008 after beating West Covina, 35-7. The Cubs have a new standout at running back in junior Wyatt Bradford, who has rushed for 340 yards and is averaging 14.1 yards per carry.
Helping the Cubs has been the return of former Coach Steve Grady as an assistant. He coaches the running backs and quarterbacks and sits in the press box during games.
‘He had to learn how to put on a headset,’ Coach Mike Christensen said. ‘He has so much experience and sees so much.’
Another rising junior for Loyola is defensive back Cameron Walker, who Christensen said ‘is really a special player.’
