BURNET, Texas — Canadian heavyweight Wille de Wit will face American Mike Butler Jan. 24 at Las Vegas in the Olympic silver medalist’s second professional bout, De Wit’s trainer said Friday.
De Wit, 23, won his professional debut Dec. 1, scoring a technical knockout in the second round over out-of-shape American Ed Morgan. The Grande Prarie, Alberta, native has been training in Burnet since the fight. He will receive $5,000 to meet Butler.
Harry Snatic, De Wit’s trainer, said the bout would be televised on ESPN and promoted by Bob Arum. Snatic added he knew little about Butler, whom he described as a California native with a 5-5 record.
Snatic said De Wit’s fight would be a six-round featured match on the undercard of an ESPN-sponsored elimination even.
