PacTel Mobile Access will buy 23.5% of Bay Area Tel.

PacTel Mobile, the division of Pacific Telesis that provides cellular telephone service, said it has agreed to purchase the interest in Bay Area Telephone from Cellular Network of Dallas. Bay Area plans to provide mobile phone service in the San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose metropolitan areas. Under the agreement, which must be approved by the California PUC and the FCC, PacTel will sell its 3% ownership in a GTE Mobilnet cellular system under construction in San Francisco.
