A Mission Viejo motorcyclist who stopped at a crosswalk for a pedestrian was fatally injured Monday when he was struck from the rear by a hit-and-run driver, police said.
James Michael Randall, 32, died in Mission Community Hospital, about an hour after the 7:45 a.m. crash at La Paz Road and Spadra Lane.
Witnesses said the driver of the car, a silver-colored, full-sized Ford or station wagon, continued east on La Paz after the accident, California Highway Patrol spokesman Ken Daily said. The car received some front-end damage, he said.
Daily said police are looking for the pedestrian, who also left the scene. He is believed to be a student at one of the schools near the intersection.
“The schools are being combed right now,” he said. Anyone who might have information is asked to call the Highway Patrol in San Juan Capistrano, 661-6215, or in Santa Ana, 547-8311.
