Recently fired El Toro High School mathematics teacher Ronald Charles Sklar, 42, was arrested on suspicion of trying to murder law officers during a brief shootout at his Mission Viejo home, Orange County sheriff’s officers said. Sklar allegedly fired several shots through a window at four deputies who arrived with an arrest warrant charging him with carrying a concealed weapon earlier in the day, when he purportedly stormed into the Saddleback Unified School District office displaying a pistol and demanding to speak to a school board member about his termination. A sheriff’s sergeant fired two rounds at Sklar in response to his shots. No one was hit, but an investigator was cut in the face by shattered glass. Sklar later surrendered and was held at Orange County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
