Nicaraguan Assembly OKs Wage Increases

MANAGUA, Nicaragua — The Sandinista government’s National Assembly approved wage increases of 47% to 60% Thursday, a day after the left-wing government announced food price increases of up to 110%.
The new wage package, approved after a noisy session that broke up in the early hours of the morning, is designed to counter steep price increases but residents here doubted whether the increases will be sufficient.
