Kevin Dean Jones, the cocktail-lounge pianist who was severely burned when he apparently set fire to his estranged girlfriend’s apartment, died at the UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, officials said. Deputy Coroner Cullen Ellingburgh said Jones died shortly before 8 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled for today, Ellingburgh said. Jones, 32, of Garden Grove was found standing up and on fire in the hallway of his estranged girlfriend’s Anaheim apartment when firefighters arrived there early Monday afternoon. Detectives, who said Jones had called fire officials earlier that day and threatened suicide, said he had penned a suicide note pledging his love for the woman sometime before the fire started.
