Pawn Shop Fees Sought:A $414 fee for new pawn shops, second-hand stores and antique dealers will be considered by the City Council tonight. The proposed one-time fee would cover the city’s cost to process the business applications, police Capt. Mike Burch said. An additional $67 would be assessed for every new employee or partner, primarily to cover the cost of a police background check, he said. Currently, no fee is charged. The city now has one pawn shop and “maybe half a dozen” second-hand dealers, Burch said. The fee is the most recent proposal to be considered that would affect such businesses.
