Countywide : Supervisors OK Plan for Special Jail Investigator
- Share via
The Board of Supervisors, meeting in executive session Tuesday, decided to go along with U.S. District Judge William Gray’s plan to appoint a special master (an independent investigator) to observe conditions at the Orange County Jail and report findings to the court, sources close to the board said.
Last week, Gray ordered Sheriff Brad Gates and the supervisors to explain at a March 18 court hearing why they should not be held in contempt of court for making some inmates sleep on the floor.
The county is planning a new facility to relieve overcrowded jail conditions, but no site has been selected.
