Countywide : Anti-Poverty Agency to Offer New Programs

A 24-hour information and referral center and money to help low-income renters pay moving costs are included in several new programs announced Thursday by officials of Orange County’s largest anti-poverty agency.
Although plans are not yet specific, Community Development Council officials said that $188,000 of the program’s $3.3-million 1985 budget will help finance:
An around-the-clock information and referral center. The $40,000-a-year program will offer referral services in English, Spanish and other languages.
A housing loan program to help the homeless and working poor, some of whom are living in motels, with moving costs. About $60,000 will be used to provide small loans.
The hiring of a medical coordinator to determine Orange County’s medical needs in poverty areas.
The council provides or arranges for a variety of services for poor people in the county, including a food bank, emergency shelter, weatherization programs and a mobile health clinic.
