The Los Angeles City Fire Department sent a mobile analysis unit Wednesday to the General Motors Corp. plant on Van Nuys Boulevard in Van Nuys to investigate a chemical spill that released a small amount of chlorine gas, Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said.
Paramedics reported the spill but did not transport anyone to a hospital, Wells said.
The IT Corp. was contacted by the Fire Department to clean up the spill of liquid sodium hypochloride, Wells said.
The county Department of Health Services also dispatched a hazardous materials team to the plant, a spokesman said.
Company and United Auto Workers Union representatives were not available to comment.
