Japan OKs Limit on Steel Sales

WASHINGTON — Japan has agreed to limit its sale of steel to the United States, U.S. Trade Representative William E. Brock said today. The Japanese are the last major U.S. supplier to agree to such restraints.

The accord will limit Japan’s sales to 5.8% of the U.S. market, a small drop from last year’s level, said a spokeswoman for Brock. Under a plan announced earlier by President Reagan, total imports from all nations are to be kept to 18.5% of the U.S. market, compared with 26.7% last year.
