More than 7,000 spectators are expected to line the curbs and sidewalks of Mission Viejo Saturday for the 16th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, parade sponsors said Thursday.
Wendy Wetzel, spokeswoman for the Mission Viejo Activities Committee, said the parade, to cover a one-mile route, will begin at noon at Marguerite Parkway and O’Neill Road. It will then proceed south on Marguerite, then east on Alicia Parkway.
Olympic swimming and diving coaches Mark Schubert and Ron O’Brien will serve as grand marshals, leading the 97 parade entries. Schubert is the head swimming coach and O’Brien is the head diving coach for the Mission Viejo Nadadores amateur swim club.
Olympians Michelle Mitchell and Wendy Weyland, both of Mission Viejo, will also appear in the parade.
Wetzel said bleachers will not be provided for parade-watchers. “It’s first-come, first-served in the streets,” she said.
