Jack Manley, a health administrator with 27 years of experience, has been appointed chief executive officer of Alhambra Community Hospital. The appointment is the result of a two-month search by Republic Health Corp., which hospital trustees signed to a five-year management contract in an effort to improve a low patient occupancy rate of about 30%. Republic, based in Dallas, owns and/or manages 60 hospitals and health care facilities across the country.
Alhambra Community, which entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1981, is owned by the Alhambra Redevelopment Agency, which leases it to the city of Alhambra, which in turn subleases it to the Alhambra Community Hospital Corp. After the hospital fell behind in its rent to the agency, an agreement was reached under which the hospital is paying current rent and the delinquent rent with interest. The agreement is expected to last about 15 years.
