A 32-year-old man was killed early Sunday when his car was hit by a train after entering a crossing where signal lights were flashing, Anaheim police said.
Jeffrey Joseph Mitchell of Anaheim died at the scene, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 1:10 a.m. near the intersection of Imperial Highway and Orangethorpe Avenue, said Sgt. Michael Webb.
Mitchell, alone in a 1978 Chevrolet El Camino, was southbound on Imperial Highway, Webb said. As the eastbound Santa Fe Railway train approached, the railroad signals were activated and the crossing arms were lowered, he said.
It was not known whether Mitchell drove arounda crossing arm or crashed through it. Anaheim police investigators, who are probing the crash, and Santa Fe spokesmen were unavailable Sunday.
