PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Eleven women and four men were sworn in Monday as the jury for Claus von Bulow’s retrial and then were taken to a hotel where they will be sequestered for what is expected to be a two-month trial.
Four deputy sheriffs were also sworn in to guard the jurors around the clock.
As the 15 panelists were sworn in, a 16th juror was excused after citing medical problems. Three of the jurors will serve as alternates.
Superior Court Judge Corinne P. Grande said the jurors today will visit Clarendon Court, the Von Bulows’ Newport mansion where he is accused of twice trying to murder his wife with insulin injections. The state will begin opening arguments Wednesday.
