Convalescent Home Zoning: The construction of convalescent homes in all zones except areas designated for mobile dwellings has gotten a thumbs up from the city’s Planning Commission. The proposed amendment to a zoning ordinance that now allows the homes only in high-density residential zones is scheduled for review by City Council members July 16, Assistant Planner Ted Commerdinger said. The change in the ordinance is in response to a growing need for homes for the elderly, he said. The revised ordinance requires operators proposing such facilities, such as the “board-and-care” homes, to obtain a conditional use permit and be subject to a public hearing before opening in the city.
