Several Valley athletes placed in The Athletic Congress’ recent Youth Track and Field National Championships in Hempstead, N.Y. David Fursman, 15, of Granada Hills took second place in the javelin throw with a 170-foot, 6 1/2-inch toss. Fursman, a junior at L.A. Baptist High, also took fourth place in the decathlon with 5,398 points. Besides these events, which gained him three medals and All-American honors in the intermediate boys division, Fursman recorded six personal records at the meet. . . Harvard High’s Leo Marks, 14, placed third in the 800 meters at the TAC nationals. Marks, a member of the Super Sonic Track Club and co-most valuable player on Harvard’s freshman-sophomore track team, will be competing tomorrow and Sunday at the Track City International Classic in Eugene, Ore. . . . Joe Devine, 15, took third place in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:07.
