William Norlund has been appointed acting president of Pierce College by the Los Angeles County Community College board of trustees, a school spokesman said Friday.
Norlund, 47, said he is one of three candidates being considered by the board to replace Dr. Herbert Ravetch, who retired July 1.
School officials would not name the other two candidates, but said they hope to select a new president by Aug. 19, the first day of school.
Until that time, Norlund will be acting president.
Before his appointment, Norlund was vice president of administration and assistant professor of physics.
He has been employed at Pierce since 1967.
