Young and Cornell Lead Rancho Santiago

Mark Young scored four goals and Mike Cornell added three to lead Rancho Santiago College to a 16-9 win over Palomar on Tuesday in Mission Conference water polo action at Palomar. The victory improved the Dons’ record to 10-1.
Rancho Santiago jumped out to an 8-1 lead by the end of the first quarter, and the Comets was never close after that.
Dons Darin Haskins, Greg LaPointe and Charles Sommer each had two goals, and goalie Steve Redding had 13 saves. Dan Ropp led Palomar with three goals.
Rancho Santiago’s next match is Friday, when it will play at Golden West.
In other action:
Glendale 2, Golden West 0--Golden West’s preseason record slipped to 2-3-2, as it lost to Glendale. Pat Gubelli and Sarkis Jaobourin each scored for Glendale.
The Rustlers will play next on Friday as the Golden West Soccer Cup gets under way at 6 p.m. The tournament concludes with the final rounds on Saturday.
