Margaret Wherry, Former Hospital Director, Dies at 76

Margaret J. Wherry, retired executive director of the Hospital of the Good Samaritan, died Oct. 5 in Irvine after a long illness, a hospital spokesman said Monday. She was 76.
Miss Wherry was born and raised in Riverside, attended nursing school at Good Samaritan and joined the hospital’s nursing staff in 1931. She served in various administrative posts before she was named executive director in 1940. She retired in 1972.
A Los Angeles Times Woman of the Year in 1953, Miss Wherry was named to the hospital’s board of trustees after her retirement. She was a fellow of the American College of Hospital Administrators, past president of the Hospital Council of Southern California and a former vice president and trustee of the California Hospital Assn.
There will be no services and burial will be in Forest Lawn, Glendale, the Good Samaritan spokesman said.
