Alvin Oser, the Orleans Parish judge who dismissed sports bribery charges against former Tulane basketball star John (Hot Rod) Williams, will be the subject of a hearing seeking to remove him from other cases in the point-shaving scandal.
Prosecutors charge that Oser has “personal hostility and preconceived notions” against them and cannot be fair in trials of four other defendants.
Oser declared a mistrial in the Williams trial in August and blamed it on misconduct by prosecutors, who had failed to turn over evidence to defense attorneys.
The judge later dismissed five sports bribery counts against Williams, who hopes soon to start a career with the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA, and blasted the incompetence and poor judgment of prosecutors.
Oser also accused prosecutors of coaching key witnesses into lying.
