FALL SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : Royal Advances in Volleyball Playoffs

Julie MacLean had eight straight kills in the deciding game as Royal High eliminated Hemet from the Southern Section 2-A girls volleyball playoffs, 15-4, 15-9, 12-15, 15-0, Tuesday night. The Highlanders (15-2) will advance to the semifinals Thursday against Nordhoff.
MacLean had 15 kills in the match. She was supported by Sara Toring and Tiffiny Neser, who had seven and six kills, respectively. Lisa Vesey had 17 service points and four aces. Brenda Anderson added 16 service points and three aces.
In other girls volleyball playoff action, L.A. Baptist extended its winning streak to 17 matches with a 15-11, 15-6, 15-11 win over Yucca Valley (15-2) in a 1-A quarterfinal match. The Knights (17-1) were paced by Kendra Frazier’s six blocks and six kills.
In City boys soccer, Sean Goldberg scored three goals to lead El Camino Real (4-2) to a 4-1 West Valley League win over Granada Hills (3-3). In other West Valley games, Cleveland shut out Taft, 2-0, and Chatsworth (5-0) blanked Reseda, 2-0. North Hollywood beat Fairfax, 2-1, in a Western League contest.
