Singapore Court Rejects Plea by Wall Street Journal

SINGAPORE — The High Court has rejected a request from the Asian Wall Street Journal for a week’s postponement of contempt proceedings, court aides said Wednesday.
The case stems from an editorial in the Hong Kong-based publication concerning opposition member of Parliament Joshua Jeyaretnam. It is scheduled for hearing next Monday.
Lawyers representing the paper sought the adjournment because at least two of those ordered to appear before the court are in Hong Kong.
The attorney general has filed contempt charges against the paper’s editor Fred Zimmerman, its Singapore correspondent Stephen Duthie, Dow Jones Publishing Co. (Asia) Inc., and the printer and distributor.
