Xerox Fires 13 Over Financial ‘Irregularities’

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Xerox announced the firing of 13 workers Friday at a suburban Rochester plant in connection with financial “irregularities” that cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars over several years, a company spokesman said.

Xerox turned over information from a comprehensive internal investigation to the county district attorney’s office Friday afternoon, Xerox spokesman Dan Minchen said.

The irregularities include “misappropriation of property, money and services” and “appear to involve only white-collar workers,” said Kathleen Majewski, an assistant district attorney.

The plant in Webster is Xerox’s largest manufacturing center in the country, producing copiers and employing 8,400 people in a variety of technical, assembly and research positions.

Minchen said the amount of money involved “is less than a million dollars,” but he refused to be more specific. He said the company will not disclose any other internal actions that may have been taken as a result of the investigation.

Majewski said her office will be examining criminal charges against Xerox employees ranging from grand larceny and falsification of business records to commercial bribery, but the filing of charges was at least a month away.
