The East Hartford, Conn.-based company agreed to pay $400 million for the PW2000 engines that will be used on up to 35 Boeing 757 cargo planes that UPS plans to purchase, Pratt & Whitney reported. The engines, the first new series developed by the United Technologies subsidiary in more than a decade, will be used for 20 Boeing 757s that UPS has ordered and 15 additional aircraft on which the carrier has options. The engines--installed and spares--will be delivered over a six-year period beginning in 1987, Pratt & Whitney said in a statement.
