Jason Turner, a 6-2 off-guard at Crespi High, has given a verbal commitment to attend UC Irvine in the fall, he said Friday.
Turner, averaging 15.2. points per game on 51% field-goal shooting, said he made the decision to put an end to the pressures of recruiting.
“It was starting to get to me, and sometimes I was taking it onto the court,” he said. “At first I thought I’d wait until April, but I decided to get it over with.”
Turner said he had narrowed his choice of schools to five before deciding on Irvine about two weeks ago. He declined to name the other schools he was considering.
Loyola Marymount, San Jose State and UC Davis were also interested in Turner, sources said.
Turner is the second Valley player to sign with the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn school. Camarillo’s Mitch Parrott also signed early with Irvine.
