World Cup champion Conrad Homfeld of Petersburg, Va., rode Maybe to two clean rounds and a victory over a field of 71 horses in the $50,000 Mercedes Grand Prix at Tampa, Fla.
Only two horses were able to complete the 17-jump, 382-yard course without penalty. Homfeld and Maybe, eighth in the order, looked like they might not need a jump-off until Lynne Little, of Frederick, Md., turned in a clean round on Ommen.
In the jump-off, Homfeld, two-time Mercedes Grand Prix rider of the year, went clean again on his 13-year-old Irish-bred gelding. The 1984 Olympic silver medalist finished in 35.007 seconds.
