The pilot of a U.S. Navy jet was killed in a crash during reserve training near the China Lake Naval Weapons Center, authorities said. The A-7B Corsair jet crashed in the desert near Owens Valley, north of the weapons center, said Bill Valente, a spokesman for the Alameda Naval Air Station, where the jet was based. The pilot of the single-seat jet was not identified pending notification of his family. Valente did not know if the pilot was a civilian reservist or on active military duty.
