Los Alamitos : Maj. Gen. Delk Assumes Guard Unit’s Command

Major Gen. James D. Delk assumed the duties of commanding general for the 40th Infantry Division, a mechanized unit of the California Army National Guard, during military ceremonies Sunday in Los Alamitos.
Delk replaces Maj. Gen. William J. Jefferds, who will become the commanding general of the State Area Command in Sacramento. Jefferds has commanded the 40th Division since July 17, 1983.
Delk’s last assignment was in Washington, where he served as military executive of the Reserve Forces Policy Board, office of the secretary of defense.
