A22-year-old Sepulveda man was killed and three other persons were injured Sunday morning in a three-vehicle accident on the San Diego Freeway.
The accident occurred about 5:15 a.m. when a car carrying three men crashed into the rear of a tanker truck and dragged a short distance in the freeway’s southbound lanes near Pico Boulevard in West Los Angeles, Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman Jim Williamson said. Then, as the truck driver was setting out flares, a second car rear-ended the truck and the first car, California Highway Patrol Officer Lujuanna Lopez said. The driver of the second car was dead at the scene, authorities said. His name was withheld until relatives could be notified.
The three male occupants of the first car were not seriously injured, Lopez said, although two were treated at Brotman Medical Center and the other at UCLA Medical Center.
The truck driver was not injured and no oil was spilled on the freeway, Williamson said.
