Leading Polish opposition activist Bogdan Lis, newly released from jail by the Communist authorities, called for legalization of the banned Solidarity trade union. He told chanting supporters after a church service in Gdansk: “We don’t want to act in conspiracy, we want to act legally, and we want the authorities to make that possible.” Lis also said that all of Poland’s estimated 350 political prisoners should be released under a clemency law announced last month.
