Republicans continue to far outpace Democrats in raising money, but for the first time in nearly a decade both parties are collecting less than in previous years, a Federal Election Commission study showed. In the 18 months ending June 30, Republicans raised $186.1 million, more than five times the $35.1 million the Democrats took in, but both parties collected less money than they did during the same cycle of 1983-84. In the earlier period, which was a presidential election cycle, the Democrats raised $59.7 million, while the Republicans took in $207.7 million.
