Hamburger Hamlets, a Sherman Oaks-based restaurant chain, reported 80% lower profit despite 14% higher sales for its first quarter ended June 29. The company’s net income was $82,264, or 3 cents a share, on sales of $10.7 million.
In a prepared statement, Harry L. Lewis, president of Hamburger Hamlets, said the company’s earnings were hurt by the cost of opening five restaurants. The firm now operates 24 restaurants in Southern California, the Washington, D.C., area and Chicago.
