A Compton man was in critical condition at Westlake Community Hospital, after he was accidentally shot in the face by a companion on a deer-hunting trip near Calabasas. The victim was identified as Efrain Garcia, 32, who was hunting with six people on a private ranch in the Calabasas Hills, when one of them reportedly mistook his movement in the brush for that of a deer. Sheriff’s Sgt. Paul Worthy said Garcia’s friends were cited for misdemeanor violations of the state Fish and Game Code for hunting on private property and for being without permits or license tabs.
