In a bid to assemble a strong sports platform this weekend, CBS will plunge into coverage of the World Swimming and Diving Championships from Madrid.
With Olympic gold medalists Greg Louganis and Mary T. Meagher expected to compete in this international amateur event, the broadcast starts today at 1:30 p.m. and continues Sunday at noon (2)(8). The competition, which also will feature synchronized swimming and water polo, concludes with two more TV segments next weekend on CBS.
CBS also has its eye on The International, an inaugural--and unusual--PGA golf tournament using a scoring system in which points are awarded in relation to par. Played at the Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado, the tourney’s final two rounds can be seen today at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. (2)(8).
The women will be teeing off on NBC as the network carries the Nestle World Championship of Women’s Golf from Lake Lanier Island, Ga., today at 2 p.m. (4)(36)(39), and Sunday at noon (36), 2 p.m. (39) and 3 p.m. (4).
Meanwhile, the Dodgers will be swinging in San Francisco against the second-place Giants Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (11).
