Dubai allowed Libya to take possession of a European airliner with U.S.-built engines, despite a legal wrangle over whether the plane’s sale broke U.S. export rules, aviation sources said in Dubai. The plane is one of two Airbus 310s originally owned by British Caledonian Airways. After a series of sales through intermediaries, Libya bought both, taking possession of one early this month. Because U.S. export rules prohibit sending U.S. technology to Libya, British Caledonian and the U.S. government had sought to stop both deals. Dubai held the second plane six weeks before deciding Libya was legally entitled to possession.
