‘Judgment Day for Helms’

Never have I read so virulent a personal political attack as the one leveled by former Sen. George McGovern (D-S.D.) at Jesse Helms (Editorial Pages, July 27).
Coming from the good and gentle George McGovern made it an even greater surprise. I savored and agreed with every word of the indictment.
What saddens me is that Congress and the country seem to agree with Jesse Helms more than they do with George McGovern.
