Drug tests have been ordered on children entering extracurricular activities at schools in Hawkins, Tex., a town of 1,300 people. Pupils in grades six through 12 whose test results indicate they may have used any of 19 drugs--excluding alcohol--will be ineligible for intermural sports and other non-educational school activities for three months. No athletes have refused to take the test, a high school coach said, and he added that he had heard of no complaints about them. A Texas Education Agency attorney said the legality of the program is a question that will have to be decided by the courts.
