ATHENS — A car bomb exploded in a crowded square in central Tehran today, killing at least 20 people and injuring scores of others, Tehran radio said.
It was the eighth bombing in Iran this year. The Islamic Republic News Agency broadcast monitored here blamed “agents of international imperialism.”
The Tehran newspaper Ettelaat put the number of injured at 75.
The blast, on a corner of Ferdowsi Square, damaged at least four cars, one bus full of passengers, several motorcycles and several shops.
The bombing occurred two days after a similar explosion in Iran’s holy city of Qom killed 11 people and injured about 100 others.
The Tehran bomb exploded less than 100 yards from the Revolutionary Guards Ministry on one side of the square and a large komiteh (revolutionary security center) on the other side.
