49ers Get Cribbs for 2 Draft Picks

The San Francisco 49ers acquired running back Joe Cribbs from the Buffalo Bills Tuesday for two draft choices.
San Francisco Coach Bill Walsh said the opportunity to pick up a player of Cribbs’ caliber was too good for the 49ers to pass up.
“We’ve viewed Joe Cribbs over the past several years and realize he is an outstanding running back whose statistics speak for themselves,” Walsh said. “Anytime you can add a player of that caliber to your roster, it makes sense to do it.”
The arrival of Cribbs put the future of injured running back Wendell Tyler in doubt. Tyler, a nine-year National Football League veteran, is sidelined with a slow healing knee injury.
The 49ers reportedly gave up a third-round draft choice in 1987 and a fifth-round pick in 1988 for Cribbs.
