UCLA basketball player Corey Gaines said Thursday that he is transferring to Loyola Marymount.
“I thought about it for the whole summer,” Gaines said. “I just felt that I had some goals to accomplish and I don’t feel I’ll be able to accomplish them at UCLA. I feel I’ll be able to accomplish them at LMU.
“It was no personal thing. I left on a good basis. I talked to (UCLA Coach) Walt Hazzard before he went on vacation.”
Gaines, a 6-foot 4-inch senior guard, averaged 6.5 points last season for UCLA. He will have to sit out this season, but will be eligible to play for Loyola in 1987-88.
Loyola Coach Paul Westhead said he had yet to talk to Gaines.
