No wonder CBS trails in the ratings when it pulls such cavalier stunts as stopping coverage of the International golf tourney at 2:58 p.m.--just one putt away from determining the undecided second-place finisher--and then incredibly, presenting a full six minutes of commercials and promos before breaking into “Barnaby Jones” four minutes late! Literally left hanging in mid-airwaves, I phoned Channel 2’s sports department, where an evidently harassed staffer curtly told me: “We’ve already had calls on that. It was a New York decision.” I didn’t care about the other “calls,” but I did care about the arbitrary decision since I can’t imagine Channel 5 or 11 interrupting the seventh game of an Angel or Dodger playoff in order to give us a 15-year-old rerun of “Invasion of the Transistorized Gnats From Outer Mongolia.”
