End Street Scene, Bradley Urges
After a violent weekend in which one person was shot to death, about 40 others injured and 35 arrested, Mayor Tom Bradley today recommended that the Los Angeles Street Scene--begun in 1978 as a tribute to the city’s cultural diversity--no longer be held.
Bradley released his statement after Police Chief Daryl F. Gates condemned the violence and said he too would recommend that the Street Scene be ended unless organizers stop booking “punk-rock” acts and agree to close down after dark. (Violence story, Part II, Page 1.)
